tournament participation terms & conditions
1. Event Details
1.1 The Saber Skirmish 2024 Golden Saber Tournament (“the Tournament”) will be held on September 21, 2024, at the John McVeity Centre, 182 Peachey Road, Smithfield Plains, South Australia 5114.
1.2 Matches will commence at 10:00 AM.
1.3 The Tournament will follow an open format with double elimination rules.
2. Eligibility and Registration
2.1 Age Categories:
- Juniors: 10-12 years
- Youth: 13-17 years
- Adult: 18+ years
- Open Tournament: 13years – Adult
2.2 All participants must complete the official registration form and pay the required entry fee.
2.3 Participants under 18 years of age must provide written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
2.4 The Organizing Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to any individual without explanation.
3. Rules and Regulations
3.1 The Tournament will be conducted according to the Light Armoured Saber Skirmish Ruleset, sanctioned by Saber Academy Pty Ltd.
3.2 Bouts will last two minutes of effective battle time.
3.3 Each valid strike awards a single point.
3.4 Participants must adhere to all rules and regulations outlined in the Saber Skirmish Ruleset.
4. Equipment and Safety
4.1 All participants must use equipment that complies with the latest Saber Skirmish Ruleset.
4.2 Equipment must be fit for purpose and is subject to inspection by tournament officials.
4.3 Participants are responsible for providing their own equipment unless otherwise specified.
4.4 The Organizing Committee reserves the right to disqualify participants using equipment deemed unsafe or non-compliant.
5. Insurance and Liability
5.1 Intraclub competitions are covered under the respective club’s insurance where applicable.
5.2 Interclub competitions are covered under the participant’s club insurance.
5.3 All participants are strongly advised to have private health insurance or elect for additional member sports insurance before engaging in the Tournament.
5.4 Saber Academy Pty Ltd, its officers, employees, and volunteers are not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage sustained by participants during the Tournament.
5.5 By participating in the Tournament, individuals acknowledge the inherent risks involved and agree to assume all risks of personal injury, death, and property damage.
6. Code of Conduct
6.1 All participants, officials, and spectators must adhere to the Saber Academy Code of Conduct.
6.2 Unsportsmanlike behavior, including but not limited to verbal abuse, physical aggression, or deliberate rule violations, may result in disqualification from the Tournament.
7. Judging and Scoring
7.1 Matches will be judged according to the criteria outlined in the Saber Skirmish Ruleset.
7.2 The judges’ decisions are final.
7.3 In the event of a tie, the Saber Skirmish Ruleset tiebreaker procedures will be followed.
8. Prize Pool and Awards
8.1 The total prize pool for the Tournament is $350 AUD as well as the Golden Lightsaber Award.
8.2 Prize distribution will be as follows:
- 1st Place: $200 AUD, plus a Golden Lightsaber
- 2nd Place: $100 AUD
- 3rd Place: $50 AUD
8.3 Additional awards may be presented at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.
9. Disputes and Appeals
9.1 Any disputes regarding tournament outcomes must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Director within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the relevant match.
9.2 A protest fee of $200 must accompany each formal dispute. This fee will be refunded if the protest is upheld.
9.3 The Tournament Director, in consultation with the judging panel, will make the final decision on all disputes.
9.4 The decision of the Tournament Director is final and binding.
10. Media Rights and Personal Data
10.1 By participating in the Tournament, individuals grant Saber Academy Pty Ltd the right to use their name, likeness, and performance in any media coverage of the event.
10.2 Personal data collected during registration will be used solely for the purpose of organizing and promoting the Tournament and future Saber Academy events.
11. Cancellation and Refunds
11.1 The Organizing Committee reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Tournament due to unforeseen circumstances.
11.2 In the event of cancellation, registered participants will receive a full refund of their entry fee.
11.3 No refunds will be issued for voluntary withdrawal from the Tournament.
12. Acknowledgment
By registering for the Saber Skirmish 2024 Golden Saber Tournament, participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by these Terms & Conditions.
